January 9th is when I started my 13.1 running journey. On March 13, I did the 10K Shamrock Shuffle in Madison and then in week two of the Summer Foundations program, I joined my fellow Foundation friends and did the MadCity 50K relay on April 9. Two 10K’s in a little over 3 months of running, I felt awesome….. and then I hit a wall.
That week, I went out on Monday to run, and I was .5 miles into my run, and I just couldn’t do it. I stopped and walked the rest of my 2 mile run that day. Wednesday, April 13 was our Foundations training run program night and we had 3 miles to run. Again, I felt tired, in my head I was saying I hate this, and I ended up doing 2.5. A very tough 2.5. Saturday, April 16 – 5 mile run on the schedule. Instead, I did 4. Ok, I thought, one bad week, is ok.
Then comes the week of April 18. Monday, went out for a 2 mile run. I did it, but again, it felt so hard. I am thinking what is going on? I did a 10K, no problem less than two weeks ago.
Thursday, April 21st I left for vacation with a good friend to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM. (GREAT VACATION SPOT BY THE WAY). I did not run on vacation but I did do a lot of walking, if that counts for anything.
I am sitting in the Denver airport right now, and Monday will start a new day and a new week. I have to follow the advice of Taylor Swift and “Shake it Off”. I have to put the bad two weeks behind me, and focus on getting back to my training. I guess with anything in life, there are ups and downs. Here’s to going back up!
